New Rules On Clean Energy for All Europeans

ENERGY COMMUNITY COUNCIL OF MINISTERS ADOPTS CLEAN ENERGY PACKAGE

The Energy Community is an international organization that brings together the European Union and its neighbors to create an integrated Pan-European energy market.

The Energy Community Ministerial Council, the regulatory body of the European Union, has adopted a package of legal measures “Clean Energy for All Europeans”.

It covers energy efficiency, renewables, governance, the organization of the electricity market and rules for security of electricity supply. Governments are obliged to harmonize domestic legislation with the package.

The intention of the legislative acts is to enable the Energy Community to gradually switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, as well as to contribute to achieving the goal of the European continent having zero carbon dioxide emissions by the year 2050.

In particular, the EU’s Clean Energy Package covers energy efficiency, renewables, governance, the organization of the electricity market and rules for security of electricity supply.

The targets for renewables, energy efficiency and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions for 2030, will be adopted at the next meeting in 2022, after the European Commission completes the study.

The package establishes a stable regulatory and market framework to stimulate the necessary public and private investment and modernized regulations to open business opportunities.

The measures will protect vulnerable consumers, help fight energy poverty and empower consumers to participate in the energy transition.
